The zetoc current awareness service
Zetoc, the British Library’s Electronic Table of Contents database, is now available for NHS staff in England via the National electronic Library for Health. Negotiations are underway for other UK NHS staff. Zetoc contains the table of contents of over 20,000 scientific journals and 16,000 conference proceedings published per year. A total of over 15 million article and conference records across a range of disciplines, means that you can easily keep up to date with publications in your field. As well as providing a search facility, zetoc also includes an alerting service, using e-mail to notify you of new journal articles as they are published. As the database is updated daily, this can be as soon as 72 hours after publication. Zetoc is available for all NHS staff in England. Zetoc can be used from home or indeed anywhere with an NHSnet or Internet connection. Access outside of NHSnet requires an Athens username and password. If you use KA24 or HiLO then you will already have an Athens password otherwise contact the library for details or use the HiLO site. Please note that even if you are accessing zetoc via NHSnet, you will need to enter an Athens username and password to use the alerting service. An additional service offers the ability to order articles online although this is fee-based and the cost is borne by the individual. The Library has prepared a full guide to using the zetoc service which is available either from
the Library or as a PDF document
